Armenian Grape Blessing Ceremony in Warsaw

Armenian Apostolic Church today, on August 17, was celebrating the Feast of the Assumption of St. Mary, the Holy Mother of God. The feast is celebrated every year on the Sunday closest to the date of August 15. The feast, in the calendar of the Armenian Church, is the fourth of five major feasts that are commemorated, and is the oldest one dedicated to St. Mary.



The feast is one of the mostly beloved ones among Armenians all over the world. So Armenians in Poland are not an exception. Today grape blessing ceremony was conducted according to the tradition of Armenian Apostolic Church in Warsaw. The Liturgy was celebrated by the Very Reverend Father Dajad Tsaturyan, Pastor of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Poland. During the ceremony was also present Mrs. Hasmik Dashtoyan, the First Counselor Charge d'affaires a. i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Poland.



In Armenian tradition grapes are considered to be the first fruits of the harvest. The feast is also called "Khaghoghorhneq" (Խաղողօրհնեք) which means "blessing of grapes". After the ceremony everyone tasted blessed grapes wishing each other fruitfulness and good luck.
